In this article, we will focus on the Balvatika Teacher and Caregiver (or helper) Salary, recruitment and nature of job in Kendriya Vidyalaya. Kendriya Vidyalaya has introduced the pre-schooling in with the name of Balvatika I, Balvatika II and Balvatika III. For these classes Kendriya Vidyalaya hires two teachers and one caregiver(or helper) in each class.
Introduction
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has started Balvatika III classes from the academic session 2023-24 for the age students who have attained the age of 5 years as on 31st March. In line of NEP 2020 KVS has introduced Balvatika III in 450 identified Kendriya vidyalayas initially.
Further, Kendriya Vidyalaya will hire two teachers in each class of Balvatika III, Balvatika II and Balvatika I. Apart from the teachers one caregiver(or Helper) will also work with the teachers in each class of Balvatika.
Qualification of Teacher, Balvatika 1, Balvatika 2 and Balvatika 3
02(Two) ECCE (Early Childhood Care Education) trained Balvatika teachers shall be engaged on Contractual basis by each Kendriya Vidyalaya.
The engagement of Balvatika teachers will be done on purely on contractual basis. A separate instructions has been issued by the KVS(HQ) towards the engagement of the balvatika teachers. Their remuneration shall be paid similar to that of Primary Teachers.
Qualification for Balvatika Teachers as prescribed by NCTE is given below:
Senior Secondary class (Class XII or its equivalent) from a recognised Board with at least 50% marks and
Diploma in nursery Teacher education /Pre -school Education /Early Childhood Education Programme (D.E.C.Ed) of duration of not less than two years or B.Ed (Nursery) from NCTE(National Council of Teacher Education) recognised institutions.
Qualification of Caregiver (or helper), Balvatika 1, Balvatika 2 and Balvatika 3
One (01) Caregiver(or helper) is engaged by the Kendriya Vidyalaya for smooth functioning of the Balvatika Classes. Caregiver(or helper) is engaged through the manpower outsourcing services.
Qualification for caregiver or helper shall be as prescribed by NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training)/ NCPCR(National Commission for Protection of Child Rights).
Secondary class (Class X or its equivalent) from a recognised board,minimum 18 years of age and should have induction training in pre-
school Education. Or Any person possessing skill training / adequate training as prescribed by NIPCCD(National Institute of Public cooperation and Child Development), NSDC(National Skill Development Corporation) any other institution recognised by the central Government/ appropriate Government/Recognised University /Board.
Salary of Balvatika Teacher, Balvatika 1, Balvatika 2 and Balvatika 3
Per Class and per section there will be two teachers engaged for each balvatika Classes. As if now, these posts are not sanctioned posts in the KVS. Hence, ECCE trained teachers are hired on purely contractual basis for the period of one year. Eligibility criteria for Balvatika Teacher is mentioned above.
Therefore, a total of 06(Six) ECCE trained Balvatika Teacher shall be engaged on Contractual basis by each of the KVs, at the rate of two teachers for each of the Balvatika Classes.
The engagement of Balvatika teachers shall be done on purely contractual basis and their salary will be paid similar to that of Primary Teachers of the KVs.

Three Caregiver(or Helper) shall be engaged by each of the Kendriya Vidyalays at the rate of one per Balvatika Classes. Caregivers (or Helper) shall be engaged through the process of Manpower Outsourcing Services.
Salary for helpers shall be paid as per the rates applicable for semi-skilled persons.

The nature of job for Balvatika Teacher in Balvatika 1, Balvatika 2 and Balvatika 3 in Kendriya Vidyalaya is focused on ECCE(Early Childhood Care Education). In line of the NEP 2020 implementation Balvatika refers to the foundational stage of education, which includes pre-primary classes like Nursery, LKG and UKG.
