Timeline for conduct of LAT I and LAT II
Kendriya vidyalaya conducted LAT twice in the year namely LAT I and LAT II. Learners’ Achievement Test I conducted in the month of April whereas LAT II examination is conducted in the month of October.
Objective of LAT I and LAT II
The main objective of LAT I is to assess students’ achievement/learning from the previous year, which means what they learned during the last academic year.
Whereas, the main objective of LAT II is to assess students’ achievement/learning from the PT I syllabus or the syllabus covered from April to September.
Classes Covered under LAT examination
Learners’ Achievement Test (LAT) is conducted for Class 3, 5 and 8.
Importance of LAT
It is crucial to underscore that LAT I & II are the very much important for the students. Teachers’ are instructed to conduct the examination fairly, so that accurate and meaningful reflection of students’ learning and progress can be recorded.
Pattern of LAT
The assessment will consist of multiple-choice questions and will focus on foundational concepts while testing a broad range of cognitive skills to promote critical thinking,
However, the most critical aspect of this exercise is ensuring the sanctity of the exam process. This exam is a diagnostic tool for us to better understand where we stand as a system in terms of delivering quality education. By upholding the integrity of the exam, we ensure the results accurately reflect the current state of student learning, helping us identify areas where additional support or instructional adjustments are needed. If the process is compromised, it not only undermines the value of the assessment but also the hard work that students, teachers, and administrators have put into this academic session.
Instructions to teachers for conduct of LAT exams
To ensure the sanctity of the LAT examination to be considered:
- Fair and Transparent Procedures: The exam must be conducted under strict adherence to the guidelines provided. This includes fair invigilation and maintaining confidentiality of the question papers until the day of the exam. The aim is to gain an authentic understanding of the educational outcomes achieved during Term I.
- No Pressure on Teachers or Students: It is important to remember that this assessment is not designed to judge teachers’ performance or
students’ overall capabilities. Instead, it serves as a reflection of the system’s current standing, highlighting where improvements can be
made for future progress. By maintaining a stress-free and supportive environment, we can allow the students to perform to the best of their natural abilities, thereby giving us the most accurate insights into their learning. - Meaningful Feedback for Academic Strategy: After the exam, the result-analysis should be done at the school and RO level. This analysis
will provide valuable feedback, which is critical for formulating targeted interventions, enhancing teaching strategies, and ultimately ensuring the holistic development of the students.
Design of test items will be focusing on the following points-
